Nine schools have made it to the semifinal stage of this year’s edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
Shocking news reaching www.bombonews.com today indicate that the very first contest will not take place as has been arranged. This is because two out of the three schools have decided not to contest in order to let University Practice SHS proceed to the finals of the competition.
Adisadel College who happen to be the reigning champions reportedly offered to leave the competition in order to give UPSHS a chance to win the cup too, because they (Adisadel) have won it before and so it will be greedy for them to continue to compete against a school which has never won it.
Ghana National College, popularly known as National, also opted out of the competition because according to them, the founding father of their school, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a very altruistic man whose sacrificial spirit they wanted to emulate. Therefore, they were giving up their shot at the cup, to allow UPSHS a better chance at the cup since love conquers all.
Old students of both schools are currently threatening to beat up the contestants if they don’t halt the nonsense and go and compete. bombonews.com cannot tell what will become of the protests but we shall keep our readers informed in case of any developments.
