The 2017 Edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz has received a lot of attention in the past week. As schools qualified through the quarterfinals into the semis, social media trolling and banter between old students of a various senior high school in Ghana has been nothing short of funny and fiery.
In the build up to today’s semifinal contest between Prempeh College, Mfantsipim School, and Mawuli School, bombonews.com was reliably informed that two old boys of Prempeh College and Mfantsipim School had placed bets on the victory of their respective alma maters. The bet was to the tune of $2000; $1000 from each person.
The identities of both persons were withheld but we know they both are medical doctors by profession and from the Class of 2005.
Prempeh College put up a stellar performance in the competition and took the lead right from the first round. However, the hopes of the Mfantsipim School were not dashed until halfway through the final round.
When the Mfantsipim School Old Boy realized that he was on the verge of losing $1000, he screamed, “Oh, Thompson” and slumped onto the floor.
His wife and daughter who were watching the live feed from Facebook were beside themselves. All attempts to revive him proved futile and he was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The latest update we have is that he has been revived but he is still in shock over the loss.
